and spring touched our cheeks...

life continues to be BUSY.

just this weekend alone I had:

proctor and grade a test, where most students failed (ten of them told me they chose to study for other tests instead of mine, you can guess my feelings on the matter)

had a get together with friends for elementary school, since I met some of them a few weeks back in a reunion. That was the first time I saw them in 23 years. we stay talking until 5 am.

woke up around 12 pm thanks to my brother, which was good because it's Mother's day around here and we had lunch at her place!

had a nice family day, and came home early to prepare for the following week.

things I should have done, but didn't have the time: clean the apartment!, grocery shopping! it is going to be a quiet week, mostly exams. and picking up Duran Duran's ticket. have to remember to do that!

hope you are all ok, next report will be sometime this... decade?

facebook ate my life

hello? anyone there? after 6 months of silence, i believe is time for an update, don't you think?

why the silence? work mostly, it got bigger than i expected, and the times on the computer were for more work or just reading, no touching of the keyboard included!

this semester is quieter, and i need something to keep me away from facebook. i enter last saturday and already feel the addiction. found lost friends, people i haven't heard from i more than 20 years! weird, very weird. we were 12 yo kids, and now we are adults with very different lives.

but not all is good. a coworker died two weeks ago. i didn't know she was ill, just that she disappear and most of her work in one of the classes we work together end up in my plate. the anger is now a lot of guilt. i ended up being in charge of that class. that in itself feels strange. but good. i just wish the reason for my sudden responsibilities was a different one.

cathy is beautiful and soon reaching her 4 yo. i need to do a picspam soon. be patient, soon for me is like a month for you!

kisses to all the birthdays i missed (i know i missed sweet_ali yesterday)!

it is always about men...

I think I love David Tennant.

Not only he is a great actor, has a beautiful voice (accents, always get me) and dresses like he doesn't care but looks good anyway, he likes Firefly! In one of those interviews with fans questions, they asked him about his favorite sci-fi shows besides Dr Who, and at first he seemed not to know but then he remembered that he really liked Firefly but thinks Serenety (the movie) was even better. He praises Whedon. You see, he is perfect!

This is what happens when real life gets dry... I met a guy last year, but as it usual happens every time I meet someone I like, he wasn't interested. So I let go of the idea. Quite surprised at how easy it was, really. I guess I am getting better at that. Forgetting, I mean. Or maybe I am getting better at accepting.

Anyway,I've been watching Doctor who, and Torchwood. Got into it because of James Marsters, obviously, and now I can't get enough of it. Haven't watch any of the classic Dr Who, mostly because I want to do it in order, but can't get my hands on the first episodes. And I don't want to be disappointed as I usually am with old sci-fi. Modern filming got me a bit spoiled for older things.

I am amazed at how easily I accepted first the change in doctor (from nine to ten) and then the arrival of Martha. i think the series got better with time, and I love the darkness that is hidden in Ten.

Now, I need icons for my new fandom. Maybe if I get the bug again, I can remake my website? I mean I haven't touch it for a very long time and its revamping is long overdue!

Catching butterflies

Last Friday was, among other things, Cathy's end of the academic year's ceremony. We went, we photographed, we aw! a lot.
Here are some pics:

do you want to know...

We went, we saw, we... ENJOYED!!!

saturday 1300
Marian pics me up and we go down the road to see the boys. Those that we know since 1984. Those we dreamed with when we were young. Those that taught us what it is to be a fan.
saturday 1915
We arrive at Mar del Plata and head towars Minella Stadium. We meet up with Luciana. We start looking for our seats.
saturday 2000
Miranda (a local band that is not as bad as I feared) starts playing. People starts to stand up shyly. On one of the final songs, we try to get better seats and succeed.
saturday 2130
They are here. And the seats are gone (a fans' decision. Really, who can expect us to stay seated?).

Here are some pictures, not very good ones because I was more worried about not losing one second of the show than getting a good pic. You may realize that they are almost all of John. Two reasons: he was at our side, and he's been always my favorite. Can you blame me?

Duran Duran at Mar del Plata )

And, btw the new album is amazing. Love "box full o'honey" and "she's too much" and "skin divers and... Hell, all of them.

mar del plata here I go...

Tomorrow at noon I leave to go and see Duran Duran at Mar del Plata, a city by the sea that is 400km form here. It happens to be one of my favorite towns, so double pleasure. Unfortunately I have to work on Monday, so it will be a short trip. I am going with my friends, Marian and Luciana so that's another thing to add to the plus side.

If that wasn't enough to keep me in a good mood, yesterday I got a call from two different professors at one of the universities I work on, to offer me more classes! I have accepted one, and the other is trying to arrange the schedules to include me. So different from another university were they make changes without even asking me if I can, and I've been teaching that class for a while now, and even worked on the material for it.

Well, off to sleep since I am taking a class early tomorrow morning before the trip (pedagogic stuff, trying to improve my skills and my resume).

Have a great weekend!

afternoon with mate

No, it is not "mate" the English word that means friend, but "mate", the southamerican infusion.
Spent the Sunday afternoon with parents, brother, sis-in-law and niece. Got my camera and we took a few pics of Cathy, obviously. Therefor... PICSPAM!

too busy, try again...

life is quite good lately.

work: i got three more classes for next semester in my favorite school. my students from biochemistry did really well in their fist exam. two of the classes i teach are done. three others are almost done. the end of the academic year is getting close and that means... I will be able to have a normal sleeping pattern!

family: i love my niece. that is all.

pic! )

friends: the fact that i can include this category is enough to be happy. we will be going on a day and a half trip to mar del plata to see.., duran duran! and i can actually pay for a good seat this time around! i feel a teenager all over again.

me: i am feeling pretty good lately. and for the first time in who knows how long i want to celebrate my birthday. to the point of planing it two months earlier! well, the bad thing of having your birthday at the end of the year, is that everyone always has plans, so i want to be the first to invite people. i have no idea how they will fit in my apartment, but it doesn't matter. i am getting to 35 and that is an important number. for me anyway.

good and bad, they come together like family

strange weekend. as usual for me my weekend started on friday, since i don´t have any classes that day. it was a strange one. first, i've been nursing my ankle. thursday morning i was with my head on the clouds walking down the street and then i was on the floor. considering how easy it is for me to just fall down, i have to considered myself really stupid for missing the unevenness of the ground that cause my fall. i didn´t break anything, but had to be very careful these last few days to not make it worse.
but not everything was bad. there is a chance i'll get more classes at one of the university i work next year and that always makes me happy.
friday went to the mall to buy something for a friend and to enjoy walking on even ground. the rest of the day i spent it with my foot high so the swelling could recede.
on saturday, i had to take an exam most of the day. the results were not as bad as they usually are, so it counts as positive. and went to a party with my really old friends (old as in "i know them since forever"). had a great time and even manage to practice my english with an american. got home around 5am!
and today, well... election time in argentina. my presidential candidate didn't even get to the first three. booh. it is no secret that i don't like the governing party. i am not looking forward to the next four years. no sir.
november could become a very good month, and i am happy that the nice weather is here. of course soon enough i will complain abut the heat, but if there is nothing to complain, something is wrong, right?
have a great week people!

spring time on b. a.

The calendar says we're on spring time, but the weather seems to have an issue with that. Luckily today is the second day without rain. I can actually see sunshine coming trough the window!

Life has taking an interesting turn. Nothing major happened outside, but for the first time in years I actually want to go out with people, meet old and new friends and have some kind of life outside family and work. It is refreshing.

Friday night I went to a presentation of a tribute band. This is not my usual taste but there were too good reasons to go. They were a Duran Duran tribute band and my cousin Cecilia sings in it (second voice, obviously). I had a great time, and promise my cousin to go out with her this following Friday to see another band, where another cousin's stepdaughter plays. Promise not to come home too early!

My niece is three years old now and finally started talking. Sometimes she struggles finding words but makes it up with gestures. I am sure she will catch up with other kids her age pretty soon, I mean, how long can she fight genetics, right?

TV related topics: I...
love Supernatural.
enjoy Stargate Atlantis.
love Numb3rs.
enjoy Heroes.

Interesting that three of those shows have a set of two brothers, with the older one feeling responsible for the younger one. Maybe I have a thing with that...

Also, waiting for BSG and SG1 movies. Didn't get into any new show, tried Pushing Daisies and thought it was cute but not enough for me to commit.

angel-darla who you are

No more promises

After a long absence I have to accept the fact that I can't promise anything. Life just gets in the way, and keeping up with LJ amounts to checking the flist and nothing more.

Life is good, right now I am at my new (just out of the box) computer. Pretty, fast and with enough space that I can download things with no worry of running out of space!

Work is my main occupation, right now is finals time and that means weird hours, but in a week regular schedule comes back. That is, the same schedule every week, because working from 8am to 11pm Mondays and Tuesdays and then only a few hours the rest of the week isn't what most will consider regular.

My parents are moving to a smaller apartment, which means some extra stuff for me (furniture, books and other things) and lots of craziness.

My niece is still the prettiest and loveliest but she is already demanding that we all do her will. I guess giving her names of queens was not a good idea. Right now she is recovering from an eye infection, which seems to be the disease of the moment around here.

And the craziest thing around here? Two weeks ago, on our 191 Independence anniversary, it snowed. For real and with a slight accumulation. First time in almost 90 years. Weird. Everyone was in the streets enjoying the novelty. Except me. Seven years in Indiana made snow anything but novelty.

I've been watching Stargate (both SG-1 and Atlantis), and I have to say i love the show, tha characters, the story and the continuity. How small characters always come back. Really good.

That's it for now, hope to get in touch soon.

How you've been?

Well, here I am. Still alive, and with tons of news, but most of it has been diluted by time.

January was kind of a social month, with my reunion with old high school friends and family's get together.

February was more of a working thing, and the month I finally read Harry Potter.

Why didn't I read it before? Only consolation is that I only have to wait a few months before the conclusion.

But the most important news of all is that I got two more appointments at two other Universities. One that is known for being expensive and the other for having a really good program. This puts to rest my money worries, but increases my health ones. I will have to get my act together, because the schedule looks awful (for days a week working at night and three working in the mornings, and lots of running in the afternoons). But it is good none the less.

In less happy news, I have to get one of my molars extracted. Toothache sucks! Of course, first I have to fix some problems with my health insurance (don't get me started!).

Cathy is growing. Her vocabulary is increasing, but my brother and sis in law were worried and took her to the doctor. The doctor said that she wasn't talking because she was lazy! So now we are trying not to answer unless she actually tries to said something instead of pointing to things.

And she is quite the actress. When she knows she is doing something she shouldn't she pretends to walk slowly looking around with a look that makes us all go "ah". And you have to see her trying to imitate Sportacus doing crouches. She is so active, it tires me just to see her.

I am not promising anything, but I hope I can keep you updated about life, and not spend another two months in silence.

oh, oh, tomorrow is december 28...

And that means... I'll be 34!

OK, let's not panic. Think of the good stuff.

Like having your students tell you that, rumor has it, I am a good professor (see me jumping). But even better, the dean of the freshman college told me the same!

Oh, and they had to split in two the summer class, because there were too many students, so I will have more hours, and therefor, more money. Maybe one day I will have a summer vacation too, but one thing at a time.

Spent Christmas at the parent's. On the 25th got a visit from Santa, see?

Hope, it is all about hope

You know how in Farscape both D'Argo and Chrichton mentioned that hope of seeing his son/getting back to Earth was what allowed them to keep going? Well sometimes it feels that it is true even for me.

Hope that I will get this new job I just interviewed for.
Hope that my family will stop with the holidays' drama.
Hope that I will be able to buy presents next year.
Hope that I will lose weight.
Hope that I will finished my web site's renovations.
Hope that I will post more regularly.

Oh yeah, it is all about hope.

two already?

When I was going to do some grocery shopping I realized something. Today is the second anniversary of my return to Buenos Aires. To commemorate such event, I took pictures of my new apartment. But first see how it was when we got it, two months ago. Unfortunately the pictures do no justice to the dirt, so imagine everything really, really dirty.

Got speed

Finally I have an internet connection that allows me to browse without timing my time!

But of course it happens the one day I don't have the time to play with it. Gotta go to work in 30 minutes.

Expect pics of my new place around friday. Or wheneve I tidy up the place a little.

Today is one month since I moved. Just wanted to write that down somewhere.

in need of a little bit of sunshine

It is so strange how you northern people complain about heat in regions not use to such high temperatures and here we are freezing!

Several days in a row with 1C, where we usually have 5 to 10 C. All of this after the big chunks of ice made holes everywhere in the city last Wednesday. Weather is weird.

Have a phone line, but can't dial out, only receive phone. There for, no internet at home yet.

Work is crazy. Today university classes start, but I am not done with tutoring high schoolers, so this week is borderline insane!

Gonna check the email while I can, then back to work.

Talk to you soon, I hope...

disconnected

If something really important happens, you will have to tell me, because I still don't have internet at home!

Last wednesday we had rocks falling from the sky. Big chunks of ice (diamter of 2 inches average), and cars everywhere got broken windows and enough dents to beat any record. We were lucky, being all inside, including the car, but a lot of people (specially taxis) weren't.

In a more personal note, the apartment is almost ready, only minor details. As soon as I can I will post pictures.

Saw "Pirates..." and loved it. Haven't laugh that much in a long time.

My student should be here any minute now, hope you are all ok!
